Asian food highlight of the year, the Night Noodle Markets (NNM), return to North Hagley Park from Friday 9 to Sunday 18 February.
The markets are open every day from 4-10pm, with a special early start of 1pm Saturday 17 February to coincide with the much-loved Sparks, also taking place in Hagley Park the same day.
Last year, almost 100,000 Cantabrians came along to experience the hustle and bustle of an authentic Asian hawker market. This year the markets are back bigger, better and for longer as they are extended to 10 nights.
Local stall holders like Madam Kwong, Sister Kong and Hachi Hachi will be joined next month with Australian vendors Gellato Messina, Hoy Pinoy and POKLOL bringing their tasty treats to Christchurch.
Stuff Event Operations Manager David Blackwell says,
“This free, family-friendly event has quickly become one of Christchurch’s largest and most popular food festivals. This year it’s even easier to get around all 23 different food stall holders as it’s been extended to ten days, meaning visitors will be sure to come more than once.
“One of the best things we’ve introduced is making the event cashless so there’s no need to carry cash and wait for change, all vendors will have EFTPOS terminals that also offer PayWave. So you just order, swipe or tap, and eat. He says that the markets are working towards attaining the Zero Waste accreditation across the country and that the Auckland event in December hit the mark.
“There are two new environmental initiatives we’re pleased to announce for Christchurch. We are working with the Christchurch City Council and their Waste Sustainability Trial, which has four suppliers: Innocent Packaging, Ecoware, Detpak and Biopak. Together our aim is to ensure local events minimise landfill, and maximise the customer experience.”
“Also one of our event partners is Globelet, this gives our customers a greater event experience as there will be no single use plastic cups. Instead, customers can purchase a limited edition event tumbler or wine glass (each $3) from the Info Booth. At the end of their night they can either take it home or return it for a partial refund.
