The Ports of Auckland Round the Bays event was started by the Auckland Joggers Club in 1973 with 1,200 participants and has grown for the last 46 years with more than 26,000 participating each year.

The 2018 event was again one of New Zealand’s most iconic fun runs and the largest mass participation event in the country. The 8.4km course contours Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour, beginning outside the Ports of Auckland on Quay Street and finishing in St Heliers Bay.

Ports of Auckland Round the Bays is a strategic partnership between Stuff Limited and Auckland Joggers Club Incorporated. In 2018 the event supported and raised over $163,000 for charities.

The charity component is still one of the biggest reasons many people from many communities come out in droves to support this event. In addition to the $50,000 cash donation Stuff committed to the three official charities: Spirit of Adventure Trust, Lifeline and Riding for the Disabled – South Auckland, EverydayHero also provided a platform for peer to peer fundraising which continued with an additional $118,000 in total being raised for charities across New Zealand.
