NZ's biggest short story competition back for 40th year

The Sunday Star-Times Short Story Awards celebrate their 40th anniversary with a record $20,000 prize pool, supported by the Milford Foundation and Penguin Random House.

Prize categories: Open ($15,000, up to 3,000 words), Emerging Māori/Pasifika ($2,500, up to 3,000 words), and Secondary school ($2,500, up to 2,000 words).

Past winners include Eleanor Catton and Carl Nixon. Judges for 2024 are Eileen Merriman, Lauren Keenan, and Jane Arthur. Entries close October 7, 2024.
