Secondary school teacher wins NZ's biggest short story competition

Rebecca Ball, a Christchurch educator, won the $15,000 open prize for "How It Is In Dreams."

Wayne Hotu (Ngāti Maniapoto/Ngāti Ruanui) won $2,500 for "Birdwoman" in the Emerging Māori writer category.

Eassin Wang, a Year 11 student at St Cuthbert's, won $2,500 for "The Acquired Taste of Nostalgia" in the secondary school category.

The 40th anniversary competition attracted approximately 600 entries.
